Dear Newark Speaks Readers & Writers,
I'd like to share a brief update on a recent development for the Daily Newarker. We've added some new social features to the site to let you set up a profile, share your Newark story, and connect with Newarkers with like interests. Newark Speaks is really the pioneering space for Newark discussion online, so I would be truly honored if you considered logging in and creating a profile. You can get started at: http://dailynewarker.com/register Or, read more about the new features here: Getting to Know You: Introducing a More Social Daily Newarker Thanks so much! Ken |

Sorry Ken your sights to pro one side for me, the reason many of us like newarkspeaks is because it doesn't promote one view point over the other. Neither is it used as a platform for propaganda your sight reminds me to much of channel 78 the newark channel which is more like the all Booker all the time channel. Sorry just my opinion. |

Of course, you could have posted that thought on TDN and made it less one sided.
Part of the reason we launched social features is to gather a greater diversity of opinion. To our credit, though, I think I've raised a fair amount of Booker criticism over the years. This administration has issues, and I'm just as happy to represent those on the blog along with their accomplishments. K |

Now if you would question him in your own articles instead of taken the administrations word for it, I may involve myself more. Like I said just my opinion I still read your site on a regular basis. |

Well, I guess the Booker money is flowing into your coffers again, after all, there is an election coming up, if you could call it that. Personally, I was hoping you and your shill site were gone for good. Say hello to Esmerelda for me when you see her every other Friday.

Thanks, Counter. I appreciate the readership and the feedback.
Yes, the Booker admin is good at cranking out pre-packaged media sound bites. And I do often share the interesting videos without commentary (just as I do with NJ.com video, Flickr photos, etc.). As for Press Releases, I think this is a feature, not a flaw: I want to create a space for Newark orgs -- from non-profits to businesses to City Hall -- to share their messages. They're clearly labelled as such and put off to the side of the front page. NJ.com doesn't do this as well, frequently blending PR and reporting. I'm not sure there's an inherent advantage in an administrator staying out of the discussion entirely. If there's disagreement, then TDN is an open forum to share it. If I had disabled comments, I think you'd have a better case. K |

LOL, trust me: I'm not making $$ on the Daily Newarker, from the Booker Campaign or anyone else. We've had fits and starts with advertising programs, and haven't been able to generate a sustainable income from the site. I have a day job that feeds my family.
As to wishing the site shut down: I think a rising tide raises all boats. The more online discussion about our city, the better. And, whether it's parents trying to find a space for advocacy to networking non-profits, I'd like TDN to be a resource for Newarkers, new and life-long. K |

Ken, you've been working your fingers to the bone. A news search for "Cory Booker" brings up dozens of feel-good reports published by The Daily Newarker. Sometimes, though, bad things get through like "Salahuddin Salad," "Sex-Drug-Pederast Cop Sting" and "FBI wiretaps." But, hey, the primary hits are usually your Cory Stories. Booker ought to reward you handsomely. You have done a helluva job marketing the Booker Brand.

Here is a perfect example of what I am talking about, this is commentary written by you that is Pro Booker. If you want folks to sign up to your site and post then you have to put your biases aside when it comes to Booker, otherwise the conversation is weighted in favor of one side over the other.
Cory Booker, Runner-Up February 22, 2010 in Featured by Ken Walker Well, that’s it. Mayor Booker was ousted handily from the race. After diligent efforts and a once-thought unstoppable campaign, it appears that the 6.1 Million Dollar Man has met his match and ought to throw in the towel and concede victory. As the New York Times, reports, Booker was beat out by nearly 300,000 followers, Gavin Newsom, the Twitter Prince: Samepoint, a social media search engine based in Manhattan, has named Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San Francisco, “America’s Most Social Mayor.” The start-up company accorded Mr. Newsom the title after running a formula that primarily considered the number of politicians’ followers and fans on Twitter and Facebook. Mr. Newsom, with almost 1.4 million followers on Twitter, far outstripped the mayor in the No. 2 spot, Cory Booker of Newark, who has just shy of 1.1 million followers. Oh, wait, what? You thought I was referring to that other race? Oh, no — that other guy is still going to lose. |
