You see, right here and now, I'm edging back onto the Nancy Rosenstock bandwagon. What the he11 was this meeting about? Office furniture? Yeah, I'm going to start poking around on this one. It's this kind of sh!t that makes me start to think of AKA posts (Yeah, replacing one machine with another. The problem is, is this really a new machine? Or, are we facing 4-years of Sharpe-Lite?). Look, I get the concept of cooptation. It's served Cory well at points. But perhaps he's going a bit too far. I need to find out the content of that meeting. The ONLY thing this meeting REALLY CONFIRMS is that Sharpe TRULY SCREWED Ron Rice Sr! I mean, give me a break. If Sharpe had quit then (rather than waiting ANOTHER two weeks), then Rice would have had TWO MORE WEEKS to campaign. Still a long shot, but that's two weeks Ron does't get back. And here's the other thing - Sharpe MADE RICE SR. sign one of his petitions during this timeframe. You see the psyopts? Do you TRULY SEE the psyopts on Rice Sr? Sharpe is meeting with Booker, keeping Rice on ice, doing all kinds of tricks AND WAS LEAVING ANYWAY. Sad - truly friggin sad. Ron Rice Sr. you have to DROP OUT NOW. Sharpe James was screwing you- again. (One last mind f*&@ for the road.) You have to think LIKE JAMES. He needs to be the leader of the opposition. He can't do that if you're strong. As it stands now, not ONLY do you lose this mayoral race, but you also will lose your Senate seat. Recognize this operation for what it is, and stop this plan, bro! Drop out of this race and start blasting away AT EVERYONE. Booker, James all of them...friggin guys sitting around talking cutting deals...what the he11 does that have to do with DEMOCRACY? Do the right thing Ron and get out of this race. You didn't lose it because YOU NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO WIN IT. This friggin meeting gives you the PERFECT opportunity to reassert your indepedence from everyone. NANCY ROSENSTOCK FOR MAYOR!
30 HOURS & I'M OUT. HOLLAH!!! |

James and Booker staged a sitdown
Source: No deals were made before Newark mayor withdrew bid Friday, April 07, 2006 BY KATIE WANG AND JEFFERY C. MAYS Star-Ledger Staff Two weeks before Newark Mayor Sharpe James dropped out of the running for a sixth term, he and his political rival, Cory Booker, had a 30-minute, closed-door meeting outside the city. Booker's campaign manager Carl Sharif confirmed Booker and James met alone but refused to discuss further details of the meeting. Sharif said he stood outside the venue while the two talked. Among the topics discussed was the future of James's son, John James, who is running for a council seat in the South Ward, according to two sources from both James' and Booker's inner circle who are familiar with the discussion. One of Booker's running mates, Oscar Sydney James II, also is seeking a council seat in the South Ward. Sharif insists no deals were made at the meeting. "I think that discussing the details about what takes place is not particularly useful," Sharif said. "There'll be all sorts of conjectures." He added, "We have made no deals with Sharpe James about anything whatsoever. About candidates or about employees." Sharif said Booker did not initiate the meeting. Two sources familiar with the negotiations say members of the James camp asked for the sitdown. Sharif described the meeting as civil. "There was no yelling and screaming," he said. The meeting took place outside of Newark because there would be a great deal of speculation if the two were spotted together, Sharif said. Booker, 36, refused to confirm if such a meeting took place but said he was open to the idea of meeting with James. "We're willing to talk to him," Booker said. "We're willing to listen. There's value in having conversation." James, through his spokeswoman Donna Purnell, denied a meeting took place. "I had no meeting with Cory Booker," Purnell said repeating James' exact comments. Former deputy mayor Ronald L. Rice, David Blount and Nancy Rosenstock are also running for mayor with Rice and Booker viewed as the two front runners. Speculation about why James, 70, dropped out of the race is already rampant in Newark. James said in a six-page letter on March 27 that he was not seeking a sixth term because he is against dual office holding, even though he has held the titles of state senator and mayor since 1999. At a coffee klatch in the South Ward last Saturday, Newark resident Michelle Williams asked Booker point blank, "I heard you paid Sharpe James to drop out of the race." Williams said she heard many times on the street that a deal was made, so she had to ask. Booker jokingly said he didn't have enough money to buy James off. Then, he said, "He narrowly beat a young upstart. Would he want to get into the ring with that guy again? We've been gaining steam," Booker said. "I think Sharpe did an internal calculus and made a decision for himself. I think he made a rational decision." Another source from Booker's camp who was familiar with the meeting, said: "(James') issue was his son. The discussion was to get (Booker's South Ward candidate) pulled away and get John James elected." John James said he was not aware of any meeting and did not think one was necessary. "There's a problem when you get into deals. A deal implies you couldn't win it on your own. I think I can win it on my own," he said. The two rivals have sat down on several occasions since the intense and divisive 2002 mayoral campaign. In 2003, Sharif arranged for the two to meet at Je's restaurant on Halsey Street in Newark to talk about how they could work together. Booker, in an interview in his law office last month, said that meeting was a "warm and cordial" one where Booker presented his views on the downtown hockey arena. Another meeting in 2003 did not go so well, he said. "It was just me listening to him express his anger and passion," he said. "It was very difficult for me to grasp or understand what points he was trying to make to me. After 40 minutes, we had a real conversation." The last time the two met publicly was on a basketball court in Newark where they nearly came to blows at a Newark youth basketball tournament on July 15. Sharif said he and James have also met on a regular basis in the last year to talk about working together for the sake of the city. "I've never talked about any of those discussions," Sharif said. Ronald Walters, a professor of government and politics and head of the African American Leadership Institute at the University of Maryland said Booker may be trying to distance himself from the meeting to prevent his campaign from being associated with James. Newark is notorious for its machine politics rife with deal-making, some of it done in the back rooms and political club houses. "What he wants to do is create an image that divorces him from Sharpe James," Walters said. Sharif said it is important to maintain a dialogue with James to prepare for the transition. Still, he would not disclose exactly what was said at the table. "I just think it's important that the mayor will talk to us," he said. "I think it would help for us to plan and go forward." © 2006 The Star Ledger © 2006 www.NJ.com All Rights Reserved. * * * Please explain, Mr Booker. Is this transparency and accountability? IMHO, the only thing Cory Booker needs to talk to the mayor about is keeping the mayor's hands off the $80 MM! Things like this mean a lot to me. |

This doesn't look good at all. Booker needs to come forth with the details of this meeting.
IMO, the only thing that screwed Rice, Sr. was Rice, Sr. He should've never supported James after the crap he pulled against Rice's wife and son. |

In any transition the front runner and the incumbent make contact in order to insure a smooth transfer of power. Any other spin is naive at this point.

Tinckle,
You do realize that it takes TWO to meet. At the same time you were filling this forum with your crap, Sharpe and Cory were sitting and talking about office furniture. Yet, you only talk about Cory. Give me a break. I just re-read the thing and here's the other line I overlooked the first time around. "Sharif said he and James have also met ON A REGULAR BASIS in the last year...." A whole year to talk about "working together"? But let's also not miss the other culprit in this one: The Fox Ledger. Look at this - the Fox Ledger obviously received a leak on the meetings. So something gets out and then they investigate. But then, the Fox Ledger is so IN THE BAG for Cory, they immediately turn to SPIN MODE in order to diffuse the issue as much as possible. First, look at the title they gave the article. Do you see how weak that title is? And then, just to make sure you don't get angry and think for yourself, they throw in ANOTHER subtitle to manipulate opinion even more. "Source: No deals were made...." First, why would you only quote ONE source? And then - why would you make that the SUBtitle? You see the propaganda of the Fox Ledger? Even when they stumble on to a story that doesn't fit their big picture, they can't follow through. And, why would you quote ONE SOURCE for a subtitle when you can't INDEPENDENTLY verify it? That's why they're the Fox Ledger. I see the games afoot. The Sharpe Lite Era Begins July 1st.
Good Luck, Suckers!! |
