{"id":624,"date":"2018-06-13T21:29:04","date_gmt":"2018-06-13T21:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newarkspeaks.com\/?p=624"},"modified":"2018-06-14T23:53:25","modified_gmt":"2018-06-14T23:53:25","slug":"newark-city-council-primary-runoff-election-2018-results-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newarkspeaks.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/13\/newark-city-council-primary-runoff-election-2018-results-here\/","title":{"rendered":"Newark City Council Primary Runoff Election 2018 (Results Here)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Eric Kiefer<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h4\">A trio of Baraka-backed candidates for Newark City Council prevailed over their opponents during the runoff to the 2018 Primary Election.<\/h2>\n<p>NEWARK, NJ \u2014 A trio of candidates for Newark City Council\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Municipal_elections_in_Newark,_New_Jersey_(2018)\" rel=\"nofollow\">backed by Mayor Ras Baraka<\/a>\u00a0prevailed over their opponents during Tuesday&#8217;s runoff to the 2018 Primary Election, according to early results.<\/p>\n<p>The vote totals were relatively close, with the contest between victor Augusto Amador and Anthony Campos coming down to just 83 votes and only a few hundred votes separating winners Joseph McCallum Jr. and LaMonica R. McIver from their opponents, Tomecca Mecca Keyes and Shawn X. McCray.<\/p>\n<p>The unofficial results as of Wednesday follow below, as per the Essex County Clerk&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EAST WARD<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Augusto Amador \u2013 1,824 votes (51.04%)<\/li>\n<li>Anthony Campos \u2013 1,741 (48.71%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WEST WARD<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joseph McCallum Jr. \u2013 1,378 (55.99%)<\/li>\n<li>Tomecca Mecca Keyes \u2013 1,079 (43.84%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CENTRAL WARD<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LaMonica R. McIver \u2013 1,578 (56.32%)<\/li>\n<li>Shawn X.
